Benjamin Myers 'The Gallows Pole', my nostalgia for teen horror author Christopher Pike begins to run dry, submissions limbo, UK Halloween haunts and BoonDog Theatre's 'Lovett', an origin story for Sweeney Todd's notorious accomplice.
It’s a conundrum alright, there are some amazing publishers with healthy horror lines in the UK who’ll only look at agented submissions. When I look at the UK agents who are happy to represent horror, it’s a pretty small subsection, and when I drill deeper and I have so little in common with most of them. I don’t exclusively write horror, but it feels hard to imagine being well served by a publisher who doesn’t see the value in the things I love!
I have three different graphic novel pitches I’d like to get an agent for, with three different artists and three different age categories. There seem to be around eight UK agents who are open to submissions and working on graphic novels, almost all of them focused on YA. It’s a problem!
I’m on the hunt for an agent at the moment, too. I feel your pain.
