For generations, humans and Nyctinastics, a secretive race of insectoid beings, have kept a fragile peace. Now the everblight is spreading, an unstoppable sickness turning forests to dust and dooming all who are infected.
Junko, an orphan slowly succumbing to the disease, and Yoshiki, a young actor trapped in a world hostile to the arts and self-expression, never expected to find hope in a dying world. But when they save a lost Nyctinastic, they uncover a truth that could change everything – their honey holds the cure to the everblight.
Drawn into the depths of the Nyctinastic hive, Junko and Yoshiki are offered something beyond a cure: a transformation. The hive can remake them, reshape them and free them from the limitations of the flesh. For Junko, it means survival. For Yoshiki, it’s the freedom she’s always longed for. But to accept would be to abandon their people on the eve of war.
As soldiers march and tensions snap, something ancient stirs beneath the hive – something the Nyctinastics buried centuries ago, a force that could devour everything.
Junko and Yoshiki stand at the edge of a war that will either destroy or remake their world. To save what they love, they must decide who they are, and what they’re willing to become.
Created by P M Buchan and Lyndon White in 2019, NOCTURNAL BLOOM was planned as a fantasy young adult graphic novel inspired by the work of Studio Ghibli, about two teenage friends struggling to define themselves in an adult world on the brink of war.
ABOUT THE CREATORS
P M Buchan was born in the North East of England and studied BA (Hons) English Literature at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. His stories have been reviewed and featured in Kerrang!, Rue Morgue, Bleeding Cool, and Times Literary Supplement. He has had monthly comic-strips published in Starburst and SCREAM: The Horror Magazine, written for clients including Heavy Metal Magazine and Lionsgate, and has collaborated with bands including Megadeth, Harley Poe and For the Wolf.
Lyndon White is an illustrator, writer and comic-book artist. His works have been published by Image Comics, Top Cow and Blue Fox Comics, with acclaimed graphic novels including Sparks and the Fallen Star and Candles. He is co-creator of the Lovecraftian horror series Reanimator Incorporated and has worked as part of over 40 Kickstarter campaigns. Supported by Arts Council England, Lyndon has collaborated with clients including Twitch and Historic Royal Palaces.
