Based on a true story, People Ain’t No Good is a tragic tale of friendship, betrayal, and catastrophically bad decisions. When a lost soul puts their trust in the wrong person, a simple request for help spirals into murder, manipulation, and the kind of New Year’s Eve that nobody survives intact.
Written by P M Buchan and illustrated by Jack Fallows, People Ain’t No Good is a pitch-black comedy about misplaced loyalty and the dangers of believing in people who absolutely do not deserve it.
Originally appearing in BLACKOUT II: YOLO (November 2013), People Ain’t No Good was inspired by the true story of Richard Beasley’s Craigslist murders, a case where desperate, unemployed men were lured to their deaths with promises of caretaker jobs on sprawling Ohio farms. Also by years of harrowing alcohol-induced blackouts and terrible friends.
